Postgraduate funding opportunities

Apart from the fact that it is an old and very beautiful central Cambridge College with a rich intellectual history, a good reason for applying to 乱伦通道's College as a postgraduate student is the generous range of studentships and bursaries available.

Any of these awards may be held in conjunction with awards from other bodies.

They are also available to those who are already postgraduate students at the College and are applying for a new course.

The specific awards for which new postgraduate students can apply are listed below.  In recent years the College has given over 拢200,000 per annum to graduate students as a result of these awards.

1. Postgraduate studentships and bursaries awarded by 乱伦通道's College

Only postgraduate offer-holders who are accepted for membership by 乱伦通道's College by the application deadline are eligble to apply for these awards.

1.1 Hamied Postgraduate Studentship

One Hamied Postgraduate Studentship is awarded each year on the basis of academic excellence alone. All new, full-time postgraduate offer-holders are eligible to apply, without restriction of subject or course type. The studentship may be held for the duration of the successful applicant鈥檚 course (up to 3 years for a PhD) and will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) fee rate, plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge, up to a maximum of 拢30,000 in total per year. Those with overseas fee status will receive the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures. Application deadline: All eligible offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's by 12 April 2024 will be considered for the studentship; there is no separate application form. Notification of outcome: by 13 May 2024.

1.2 Warwick Postgraduate Studentship in the Sciences

One Warwick Postgraduate Studentship is awarded each year on the basis of academic excellence alone. All new, full-time postgraduate offer-holders in any science subject (excluding medicine but including technology, engineering and mathematics) are eligible to apply, without restriction of course type. The studentship may be held for the duration of the successful applicant鈥檚 course (up to 3 years for a PhD) and will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) fee rate, plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge, up to a maximum of 拢30,000 in total per year. Those with overseas fee status will receive the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures. Application deadline: All eligible offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's by 12 April 2024 will be considered for the studentship; there is no separate application form. Notification of outcome: by 13 May 2024.

1.3 Spyrou-Lintott Postgraduate Studentship in Law (LLM only)

One Spryrou-Lintott Postgraduate Studentship is awarded each year on the basis of academic excellence alone to an offer-holder accepted for the LLM course in the Faculty of Law. The studentship provides a contribution of 拢15,000 towards the cost of the LLM course. Application deadline: All eligible offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's by 30 April 2024 will be considered for the studentship; there is no separate application form. Notification of outcome: by 17 May 2024.

1.4 乱伦通道鈥檚 College Postgraduate Bursaries

Our postgraduate bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need, and are worth from 拢1,000 to 拢3,000 per annum for the duration of a postgraduate course, up to a maximum of 3 years for a PhD. All new postgraduate offer-holders can apply without restriction of subject or course type. Up to 20 new bursaries are awarded each year. Application deadline: an application form will be sent to all offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's in late April 2024 to apply by 14 June 2024; notification of outcome: by 8 July 2024.

1.5 Sir Satyendra Roy Postgraduate Studentship for the study of Indian and Commonwealth history, economics of relations

One Sir Satyendra Roy Postgraduate Studentship, worth up to 拢12,000, is awarded each year on the basis of academic excellence to a postgraduate offer-holder studying Indian history, Indian economics or Commonwealth history and relations. The studentship may be held for the duration of the successful applicant鈥檚 course (up to 3 years for a PhD). Application deadline: All eligible offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's by 12 April 2024 will be considered for the studentship; there is no separate application form. Notification of outcome: by 13 May 2024.

1.6 Yusuf Hamied Developing Countries Bursaries

One or more bursaries are awarded each year on the basis of financial need to postgraduate offer-holders from developing countries in science subjects (including computer science, engineering, mathematics, medical and veterinary sciences). The bursary is worth up to 拢5,000 per year for the duration of a postgraduate's course (up to a 3 years for a PhD). Application deadline: an application form will be sent to all offer-holders accepted for membership at 乱伦通道's in late April 2024 to apply by 14 June 2024; notification of outcome: by 8 July 2024.

 

2. Postgraduate studentships awarded jointly by the University of Cambridge and 乱伦通道's College

These studentships are awarded in partnership with Faculties and Departments in the University of Cambridge. Postgraduate applicants who apply for in the funding section of the Application Portal by ticking  the 'Yes - I wish to apply for funding' box will automatically be considered, providing you submit your application by the funding deadline specific for your course, which can be checked in the . You do not need to put 乱伦通道's College as one of your preference colleges on your application. Successful candidates are required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship, and the University will assist with moving membership to 乱伦通道's College if necessary.

2.1 Cambridge Master's & 乱伦通道's College Studentship (MPhil only)

Three awards are made each year by the Cambridge Trust in partnership with 乱伦通道's College, each worth 拢12,000 for one year. Applicants who have applied for any MPhil course in time for the funding deadline relevant to their course are eligible for consideration. The Cambridge Trust will select the successful candidates and inform them directly. Please read the further details from the on how to apply for these scholarships.

2.2 Strachan PhD Studentship (PhD only)

One Strachan PhD Studentship is awarded each year to support an outstanding candidate accepted for a full-time PhD, without restriction of subject. The studentship will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) fee rate plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge, up to a maximum of 拢30,000 in total per year. Those with overseas fee status will receive only the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures. The University will, in partnership with the College, select the successful candidate who will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.3 Levy鈥揚lumb Postgraduate Studentship in the Humanities (MPhil only)

The Levy-Plumb Postgraduate Studentship in the Humanities will support one exceptional candidate accepted for an MPhil course in a Humanities subject each year. The studentship provides a contribution of 拢15,000 towards the cost of the course. The College, in partnership with the University, will select the successful candidate who is required to  become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

For this purpose, courses in the following Departments and Faculties are eligible: Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic; Architecture; Archaeology; Asian & Middle Eastern Studies; Classics; Divinity; English; Geography, excluding Physical Geography; History; History of Art; History & Philosophy of Science; Linguistics; Modern & Medieval Languages; Music; Philosophy.

The application deadline depends on the funding deadline for the MPhil course you are applying for: please check the to make sure you apply by the correct date.

2.4 Bindesh P. Shah Studentship in Economics (MPhil only)

The Bindesh P. Shah Studentship will support an exceptional candidate accepted for an MPhil course in the Faculty of Economics. The studentship provides a contribution of 拢18,000 towards the cost of the MPhil course. The successful candidate will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.5 Robert Owen Bishop Studentship in History (MPhil only)

The Robert Owen Bishop Studentship will support an exceptional candidate accepted for an MPhil course in the Faculty of History. The studentship will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) rate plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge. Those with overseas fee status will receive the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures.The successful candidate will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.6 Geoffrey Thorndike Martin PhD Studentship in Archaeology (PhD only)

The Geoffrey Thorndike Martin PhD Studentship in Archaeology will support an outstanding candidate accepted for a full-time PhD in the Department of Archaeology. The studentship will cover the full University fee at the Home (UK) tuition fee rate plus the minimum maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge for 3 years. Those with overseas fee status will receive the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures. The successful candidate will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.7  Granchester PhD Studentship in Law (PhD only)

The Granchester PhD Studentship in Law will support an exceptional UK candidate accepted for a full-time PhD in the Faculty of Law. It will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) rate plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge. The University will, in partnership with the College, select the successful candidate who will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.8 Judith E. Wilson MPhil Studentship at 乱伦通道's College and the Faculty of English (MPhil only)

The Judith E. Wilson MPhil Studentship will support an exceptional UK candidate who has been accepted for an MPhil course in the Faculty of English. The studentship will cover full University tuition fees at the Home (UK) rate plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge. The Faculty of English will, in partnership with the College, select the successful candidate who will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.9 George Kingsley Roth Postgraduate Studentship in Anthropology, Ethnology or History of the South-East Asian or Pacific Basin areas (MPhil only)

The George Kingsley Roth Postgraduate Studentship will support one exceptional candidate accepted for a MPhil course in the Department of Social Anthropology who is undertaking research in the anthropology, ethnology or history of the South-East Asian or Pacific Basin regions. The studentship will cover the full University tuition fee at the Home (UK) rate plus the maintenance figure required by the University of Cambridge. Those with overseas fee status will receive the Home (UK) equivalent of the fees and maintenance figures. The successful candidate will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.

2.10 Adelaide Stoll Postgraduate Studentship in the History of Drama

The Adelaide Stoll Postgraduate Studentship, worth up to 拢5,000 per year, is awarded each year to support an exceptional candidate accepted for a course in the Faculty of English, including the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, researching the history of drama in any historical period. The studentship may be held for the duration of the successful applicant鈥檚 course (up to 3 years for a PhD). The Faculty of English will, in partnership with the College, select the successful candidate who will be required to become a member of 乱伦通道's College to take up the studentship.
